The world consumer rights day encourages global awareness about consumer rights and needs. Celebration of World Consumer Rights Day means that consumer’s rights are valued and respected.
For the first time, WCRD was celebrated on March 15, 1983 and has been held annually since then, and each year is dedicated to a certain topic.
In our country, consumer rights are protected by the state and public associations. In this direction, over the years of independence, a solid framework of 100 legislative and regulatory acts has been created. The national policy in the field of consumer protection is based on the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Civil Code, the Law “On Protection of Consumer Rights “, and other legislative and regulatory acts governing relations in the field of consumer protection.
During March 2020, the Agency implemented different events dedicated to the World Consumer Rights Day. One of them is preparing a presentation about formation of consumer protection institution for students of Plekhanov Russian University of Economics in Tashkent. During the presentation students were explained what are their consumer rights and where they can appeal in case of violation of their rights.
In addition, Agency representatives discussed with students about sustainable consumption, which is the theme of World Consumer Rights Day 2020. Moreover, the Agency released articles on this topic focusing on sustainable consumption of food products, energy and water.
The Open Doors Day
On March 13, the Consumer Protection Agency under the Antimonopoly Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan hosted an Open Doors Day dedicated to the World Consumer Rights Day (15th of March).
The event was attended by representatives of the media and employees of the Agency’s territorial departments
On the open door day, guests had the opportunity to comprehensively familiarize themselves with the activities of each of the departments, namely in the field of housing and communal services, construction and transport; In the field of trade, catering and tourism; social and financial services, as well as communication services; regulation of advertising activities; analysis and development of strategic programs.
During the tour, guests observed the offices and the processes or solving consumer disputes.
In particular, the Agency presented a video about its activities and presentation on “MAҚSAD, NATIJA VA REJALAR” (“Goal, Result And Plans”) prepared by Farrukh Madaminov, head of the consolidated department for analysis and development of strategic programs.
In the final part of the event, the Director of the Agency, Elmurot Khaitmetov, awarded journalists and bloggers with certificates of honor for their contribution to the development and implementation of programs aimed at educating and improving consumer literacy.
